Wolverhampton Wanderers stand to make upwards of £40million if they decide to cash-in on Max Kilman in the summer, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Kilman has been a key member of Wolves' squad since Bruno Lage took over as head coach last summer, with the central defender only missing 11 minutes of action before being left on the bench for last night's comfortable win over Watford.

What's the latest news involving Kilman?

According to talkSPORT, Chelsea are showing a keen interest in Kilman and head coach Thomas Tuchel has sent scouts to watch the Wolves man in action ahead of potentially making a move in the summer.

The report suggests the west Londoners are in the market for at least one new centre-back due to Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta's contracts being set to expire at the end of the campaign and Kilman, a boyhood Chelsea fan, has worked his way onto Tuchel's radar.

Manchester United are also reportedly monitoring Kilman's situation after the 24-year-old has made an impression on interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Kilman’s £15,000-per-week contract does not expire until the summer of 2026, so Wolves are in a strong negotiating position if Chelsea, Manchester United or any other suitors look to test their resolve.

But Lage has confirmed the West Midlands club are in talks over a new deal which would help them in their bid to keep Kilman at Molineux.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Kilman?

O'Rourke believes Kilman's value has rocketed to upwards of the £40million mark thanks to becoming a regular member of Wolves' backline.

The journalist feels his price tag will increase even more if he works his way into Gareth Southgate's England plans.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "Max Kilman is a young left-sided centre-half who has impressed in the Premier League over the last 18 months.

"You're probably thinking he is worth £40million plus. I think he could maybe be worth even more than that right now.

"I think if he goes on and plays for England, it's going to raise his price-tag even more."

Could Kilman secure an England call-up this month?

England boss Southgate is understood to be mulling over whether to hand Kilman a maiden international call-up ahead of the Three Lions’ upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

Southgate was in attendance at Molineux as Wolves took on Crystal Palace at the weekend, but it turned out to be a match to forget for Kilman as he conceded a penalty in a 2-0 defeat.

However, Lage reacted to the reverse by backing Kilman to rediscover his best form in the weeks to come having flourished under his guidance.

Kilman has also previously earned praise from central defensive partner Conor Coady, who has chalked up eight England caps and described the ex-Maidenhead United man as 'outstanding'.
