Although not the lightest weight division available, the 170-pound limit usually means that we can see quick action as well as some massive knockouts when fights are featured.

Upcoming Welterweight Fights

With Colby Covington defeating Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision at UFC 272, there is a chance that he may be getting the next shot at Kamaru Usman.

Usman has already defeated both Covington and Masvidal, as well as other notable names in the Top 10 such as Gilbert Burns.

Whilst another showdown with Covington could be a box office draw, it is more likely that we will see Leon Edwards get the next shot at the 170-pound king.

Covington also called out Lightweight contender Dustin Poirier following his win at UFC 272, so that could be the next fight put together by the company for ‘Chaos.’

There is also the possibility of Usman getting a massive crossover fight against Canelo Alvarez in a boxing ring.

Speaking to The MMA Hour in March 2022, Usman stated that he backs himself to defeat the undefeated pound for pound boxing great.

He said: “Absolutely I see myself winning that fight. And that’s the thing that a lot of people fail to realise. A lot of people, because they think they can’t do something, they try to put that upon you.”
