Raphinha wants to save Leeds United from relegation and go out with a bang, says journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road, and Jones reckons he wants to be the man to fire the Whites to safety before leaving the club in the summer.

What is the latest news involving Raphinha?

Gianluigi Longari reported towards the end of last month that Chelsea were leading the race for Raphinha, though that may have changed after Roman Abramovich's decision to sell the European champions.

Nevertheless, what makes Longari's report interesting is the fact that it claims Raphinha has two release clauses: one worth €75m (£62m) and the other €25m (£20m), with the latter set to become active should Leeds get relegated.

The above looks like a real possibility, as Jesse Marsch's men are just a couple of points above the relegation zone.

Marsch will now be hoping that the likes of Raphinha and Patrick Bamford, who was on the bench for the American's first match in charge after an extended absence due to injury, can fire them further away from the bottom three.

What has Jones said about Raphinha?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Raphinha wants to be that man to take Leeds to safety before riding off into the sunset.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: "Obviously Raphinha is expected to leave but, between now and the end of the season, he'd love to be the guy that saves their season and goes out with a bang."

How will Raphinha be remembered if he does leave Leeds?

Fondly. His form has been a bit up and down of late, with Marcelo Bielsa, who brought him to the club back in 2020, hooking the £36m-rated Brazil international off at half-time in one of his final games in charge.

However, Raphinha has been at the heart of Leeds' success since their return to the Premier League. He came up with 15 goal contributions last season to help the Whites to an impressive ninth-placed finish and is their top scorer this term with nine strikes to his name.

If Leeds are to survive, then they are going to need Raphinha to start delivering on a more consistent basis again.

And if he does that and helps them to reach their season objective, then he should be able to depart the club on good terms should that indeed turn out to be his wish.
