A section of Everton supporters have ‘turned a little bit against’ star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this season, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The 24-year-old is enduring a difficult spell in front of goal at this moment in time, heavily contributing to the Toffees’ struggles at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

What is the latest news involving Calvert-Lewin?

Over the past couple of campaigns, Calvert-Lewin - who is valued at £40.5m - has established himself as one of English football’s leading marksman, registering 36 goals and six assists in 80 appearances between 2019/20 and 2020/21.

His eye-catching performances at club level earned the 6 foot 2 ace 11 England caps, with the first coming in October 2020, but he’s currently struggling to find his form.

After notching a goal in each of Everton’s opening three Premier League fixtures of the season, a fractured toe and a muscle injury kept Calvert-Lewin on the treatment table until 2 January.

Upon his return to the side, the talismanic forward was guilty of missing a penalty in a narrow 3-2 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion, setting the tone for what was to come.

Calvert-Lewin is still yet to find the back of the net despite starting six Premier League games since returning from his fitness setbacks, piling the pressure on his underperforming teammates.

Everton’s embarrassing 5-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur last time out left them hovering just one point and one place above the relegation zone, albeit with a game in hand over 18^th-placed Burnley.

What has Brown said about Calvert-Lewin?

Calvert-Lewin became somewhat of a fan’s favourite after joining the Goodison Park outfit from Sheffield United back in 2016 when he was still a teenager.

But despite his previous exploits in Everton’s colours, Brown has claimed that some fans have started to lose patience with his lack of productivity and availability this term.

He told GiveMeSport: “Some Everton fans have turned a little bit against him because they haven't seen him a lot this season.”
