Thierry Henry is one of the greatest male footballers of the modern era.A World Cup and Champions League winner who should have been garlanded with a Ballon d'Or trophy, Henry struck fear into his opponents with a cocktail of outrageous talent and an unwavering will to win. While there's no denying that Henry was blessed with a stunning level of natural ability, he never would have become the legend we remember today without the desire to learn, improve and work darn hard.

Henry's high standards

As such, it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that Henry expects high standards from the people around him.

More than enough stories have emerged from the Arsenal 'Invincibles', France's 1998 world champions and Pep Guardiola's Barcelona side to know that expectations were dizzyingly high in Henry's former teams.

So, when the French icon decided to try his hand at management himself, you can bet your bottom dollar that he will have wanted to create similar environments with a baseline of respect and dignity.

And while only Henry's AS Monaco and Montreal Impact players can ultimately reveal the extent to which he focused on that, the footballing world was nevertheless given a fascinating peak behind the curtain in 2018.

Henry gives a very public manners lesson

That's because Henry made global headlines for giving Benoit Badiashile, who was 17 years old at the time, a very public lesson in manners during a Champions League press conference in mid-December.

With winless Monaco going into their final group game clash against Borussia Dortmund, Henry and Badiashile faced the questions of the world media before getting up to leave together at the end.

However, Henry noticed that the young French defender didn't tuck his chair back in having stood up and started walking away. The coach then stopped and stared until he returned to rectify the error.

Without the Monaco boss seemingly having said a word, Badiashile sheepishly turned back having realised what was going on and proceeded to slot the chair back into its position. Check out the footage here:

Ouch. It's like getting a telling off from the scariest teacher at school.

Henry not only taught his Monaco players football skills, but also manners.

Manners maketh the man

While Badiashile probably didn't appreciate being given a politeness lesson in front of cameras and the world media, you've got to respect Henry for upholding his standards with even the smallest of details.

Sadly for the Arsenal icon, though, even ensuring respect was maintained at all times didn't stop his Monaco tenure from evolving into an unmitigated disaster.

In the end, Henry was sent packing after just 20 games with a miserable record of four wins, five draws and 11 losses, leaving the club just as marooned in the Ligue 1 relegation zone as when he took over.

Meanwhile, Badiashile continues to ply his trade for the principality club having now amassed over 100 first-team appearances, attracting transfer links to some of Europe's biggest sides in the process.

And it wouldn't be outrageous to speculate that little gestures and lessons like the one showed by Henry all those years ago has helped Badiashile to become the stellar young defender he is today.
