Gary Neville is a bona fide footballing legend.

In the eyes of many, the Manchester United icon is the greatest right-back in Premier League history.

Neville was the hallmark of consistency and rarely ever put a foot wrong during his 19 years in the Red Devils' first-team.

The defender-turned-pundit also won a ridiculous number of trophies at club level, including eight Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, three FA Cups and two League Cups.

Neville's footballer CV speaks for itself and it's why he's still England's most capped right-back with 85 caps.

But unlike some full-backs past and present, Neville never possessed a keen eye for goal. In fact, he found the back of the net just seven times in 599 games for United and failed to score even once for England.

That's why he was never given the chance to take a penalty kick in a professional setting and judging by his attempt during a shootout live on Sky Sports back in 2016, that was a wise call by the various managers that coached him.

Oh dear. With Arsenal legend and penalty expert Thierry Henry watching on from the sidelines, Neville failed to even hit the target, dragging his shot well wide instead.

Jamie Carragher and Paul Merson were absolutely loving it in the crowd, while Martin Tyler and Alan Smith's commentary only added to the comedic moment.

Neville's shocking attempt at a penalty live on Sky Sports was actually remarkably similar to Cristiano Ronaldo's against Middlesbrough in this year's FA Cup.

That evening at Old Trafford, the Portuguese superstar - who is usually deadly from 12 yards - fired his shot wide of the post, much to the shock of those watching around the world.

Maybe the greatest goalscorer the sport has ever seen was watching Neville's penalty the night before the game...
