Liverpool are through to the quarter-finals of the 2021/22 Champions League.

The Reds were beaten 1-0 by Inter Milan at Anfield on Tuesday evening, but emerged victorious on aggregate thanks to their 2-0 win at San Siro three weeks ago.

Liverpool were seriously tested by Inter on Merseyside and things appeared to be swinging in the Italian champions' favour when Lautaro Martinez scored an absolute stunner in the 61st-minute of play.

However, the pendulum swung back towards the home side just two minutes later when former Manchester United and Arsenal man Alexis Sanchez was dubiously sent off for picking up a second yellow card.

The Chilean was adjudged to have fouled Fabinho, but replays showed he clearly won the ball and only caught the midfield enforcer on the follow through.

After that incident, Liverpool dominated possession and saw out the game to book a place in the last eight of the Champions League.

It was actually very surprising that the Reds didn't get on the scoresheet following Sanchez's red card, as they had numerous chances to do so.

Mohamed Salah hit the post for a second time in the match and second half substitute Luis Diaz was denied what looked to be a certain goal by a fantastic last-ditch block from Arturo Vidal.

The Colombian forward couldn't believe what had happened, although that might have been because he wasn't actually looking at the ball when he shot and was therefore a tad confused at the eventual outcome.

Better luck next time, Luis.

Diaz has already produced some silky 'no-look' passes during his time at Liverpool, including in the Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea.

So it's probably only a matter of time before he pulls off a Firmino.

Despite the fact he's only scored once since signing from FC Porto in January, Diaz has already proven to be an inspired piece of business by Liverpool.

The fleet-footed winger has added an extra dimension to Jurgen Klopp's attack and Diogo Jota's place in the starting XI is under serious threat as a result.

As for Firmino, well, his days as a key member of Liverpool's attack may very well be numbered after years of great service...
