Andros Townsend has fallen down the pecking order at Everton under Frank Lampard, says journalist Paul Brown.

The 30-year-old was a regular when Rafael Benitez was in charge but has seen his game time diminish following the arrival of the Spaniard's successor.

How are things going for Townsend at Everton?

Townsend got off to a terrific start at the Toffees following his move from Crystal Palace last summer.

He grabbed an assist on his debut, the 3-1 win against Southampton, before scoring in games versus Burnley, Norwich City and Manchester United.

In total, he made 16 league appearances during Benitez's short tenure, with only one of those coming from off the bench.

Since Lampard's arrival, however, the English winger has made just one start, failing to pick up a single minute in either of Everton's last two Premier League outings.

What has Brown said about Townsend?

For Brown, it is quite clear that Townsend has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park, with the Daily Star journalist citing his poor form.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown said: "I think Townsend has definitely fallen down the pecking order a bit. He's been struggling for them, really, for a few weeks now."

Can Townsend turn things around?

Yes. The former Crystal Palace man has already shown what he can do in an Everton shirt with those few goals earlier this season. His strike against Burnley in particular was incredible and is something fans will be desperate to see more of.

In the English top flight, Townsend has amassed 262 appearances so has loads of experience, something Lampard could probably do with right now.

The Toffees are in a real fight for survival and were absolutely dreadful last time out, losing 5-0 to Antonio Conte's Tottenham.

If Townsend can recapture his early-season form and show his experience on the pitch, then Everton could be in for a huge boost in their bid to avoid the drop.

Earlier in the campaign, when talking about Townsend, Benitez told the club's official website: "I was checking his fitness stats, too, and he was one of the best players in the Premier League in terms of work-rate. We have a player who can give us something more because he has the desire."

The former Everton boss later went on to add: "Luis Aragones, the Spanish coach, was saying you cannot buy this leadership, this characteristic on the fifth floor of John Lewis." He also hailed the ex-Newcastle United star for being able to make the difference in games.

Right now, you would say that Lampard needs all of those things, so perhaps Townsend will get his chance soon.
