Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard could move Leon Bailey on this summer, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old only joined the club last August, but he has failed to make much of an impact following that £25m move from Bayer Leverkusen.

How are things going for Bailey?

It has been a disappointing debut season at Villa for Bailey, though that is largely down to injury.

In total, the Jamaican winger has managed to make just 13 appearances and has barely featured under Gerrard.

He has started just two Premier League games since Dean Smith, the man who brought him to the club, was replaced by Gerrard in the Villa Park dugout, with a thigh problem causing him to miss a large chunk of the campaign.

Bailey, however, is now fit again, featuring in the impressive 4-0 win against Southampton and 2-1 defeat to West Ham, and will now be looking to stake a real claim.

What has Jones said about Bailey?

It may be too late, though, with Jones telling GIVEMESPORT that he can see Gerrard moving on the Jamaica international before bringing in a replacement.

Speaking to GMS, the football journalist said: "If I was to guess, I'd say he'll move him on in the summer and replace him."

Should Villa sell Bailey in the summer?

No. He has not been at the club for too long and has had to battle against injuries so should not be judged too harshly.

When fit, Bailey quite clearly has a lot to offer. He grabbed an assist on his Villa debut against Watford at the start of the season before scoring in his first game at Villa Park versus Everton.

Simply put, Bailey looks like a winger who can score and create, with the Villa man coming up with over 20 goal contributions in his final campaign at the BayArena.

Unfortunately, the former Leverkusen star may not be given the time to rediscover that kind of form at Villa, as Gerrard has already talked about strengthening his squad in the summer, which could mean some departures.

"When we have another option to strengthen the team and squad we will take that opportunity," the Liverpool legend was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail last month. "My standards will always remain high."

You can only wonder what kind of season Bailey would have had if he did not pick up those injuries. Based on what he has produced in his career when fit, you cannot help but feel that it would have been a good one.
