Gianluigi Donnarumma made a horrendous error in Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League clash last-16 second leg clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday evening.

PSG won 1-0 in the first leg and went into the game at the Bernabeu with a slight advantage.

And PSG took the lead in Spain, with Kylian Mbappe finishing off a fine counter-attack just before half-time, making it 2-0 on aggregate to the French giants.

But Donnarumma, arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, then gave Real hope with a horrendous mistake midway through the second half.

The Italian spent far too long on the ball and was robbed by Karim Benzema inside his own box.

The ball fell to Vinicius Jr, who composed himself and teed up Benzema. The Frenchman then had the easy tasking of converting into an empty net.

That was a real moment of madness from Donnarumma. PSG were cruising in the tie and looking as if they would progress to the quarter-finals with ease.

But his actions gave Real Madrid a lifeline and they grasped it with both hands.

Benzema netted in the 76th minute to level the tie. And, in incredible scenes, he then notched his hat-trick 12 seconds after kick-off.

PSG immediately gave the ball away and just moments later Benzema had found the net again.

The French giants could not score again as Real Madrid held on to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

What a game at the Bernabeu.
