Real Madrid are through to the quarter-finals of the 2021/22 Champions League.

The most successful side in the competition's history beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 in the Bernabeu on Wednesday to progress to the final eight.

And it was Real Madrid's main man Karim Benzema who inspired the comeback with a breathtaking 16-minute hat-trick on his home patch.

PSG took the lead in the first half through Kylian Mbappe and for a considerable amount of time, it looked as if the French side were going to win at a canter.

But a horrendous error from Gianluigi Donnarumma in the second half gifted a goal to Benzema and that sparked Real Madrid into life.

Fifteen minutes after that moment of madness from PSG's goalkeeper, Benzema netted a second to level the tie and it was all about Luka Modric in the build-up.

The ageless midfielder drove at the visitors' defence from deep to kickstart the attack and then played a sumptuous through ball into his team's main man shortly after.

Then just 12 (yes, TWELVE) seconds after kick-off following that goal, Real Madrid went ahead in the tie and it was Benzema once again who provided the finishing touch after some more shocking PSG defending.

But it was yet another sublime finish from one of the greatest strikers of the modern era - and of all time.

So, Real Madrid will be in the quarter-final draw next week and after watching their powers of recovery against PSG without suspended duo Casemiro or Ferland Mendy, no team will want to come up against the 13-time winners.

And in Benzema, they possess one of the very best players in the world, one who's now the oldest player to score a Champions League hat-trick in history. Who needs Mbappe, eh?
