Steve Bruce's footballing CV means that he deserves time to get things right at West Brom, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 61-year-old has won promotion to the Premier League on four occasions but has endured a tough start to life in the Baggies hotseat.

What's the latest news involving Bruce?

In teams of promotion from the second-tier, Bruce is footballing royalty. He achieved the feat twice with Birmingham and twice with Hull, the last of those coming via the play-offs in 2016.

But if Bruce wants to add a fifth to his collection, he'll need to fix up pretty quickly, with his West Brom side currently eight points behind the top six with just 11 games remaining.

Bruce did get his first victory as Baggies boss at the sixth time of asking at Hull last weekend, but one point from his first five games in charge has left them in the bottom half of the Championship table.

West Brom host Huddersfield tonight in what's their first of three league games in the space of nine days, with Fulham also travelling to the Hawthorns in the coming days.

If they don't enjoy a significant points return from those three fixtures, their hopes of gaining a ticket to the lottery will be all-but over for another campaign.

Regardless, O'Rourke reckons that someone with so much success at this level deserves time.

What did O'Rourke say about Bruce?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "So, I think you have to give Steve Bruce a bit of time to try and work things out and get things right, and we know from his experience on his CV, he has won a lot of promotions, he's done good jobs pretty much everywhere he's gone.

"But he's probably finding out that it's a harder task than he initially thought when he took over."

Can West Brom still finish in the top six?

70 points was needed in each of the last two Championship seasons to qualify for the play-offs, a total that is well within West Brom's reach.

They're currently on 49 points, meaning they need at least another 21 to give themselves any chance of finishing above the dotted-line. However, with sixth place Luton already on 57 points with 11 games remaining, it's likely that West Brom will need closer to the 75-point mark.

Should that prove the case, then Bruce's men have little room for error in the final weeks of the season and pretty much need to be perfect from here on in.
