Former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has teased Joe Rogan for botching his cousin Umar Nurmagomedov’s name last weekend.

While he may be retired from mixed martial arts, Khabib Nurmagomedov still has a strong presence in the sport. In addition to being a promoter for Eagle FC and preparing for his UFC Hall of Fame induction this summer, the 33-year-old is also busy coaching the stars of tomorrow.

‘Coach Khabib’ has become a popular term for the lightweight GOAT on MMA Twitter and rightly so, given that the majority of fighters under his tutelage continue to win.

One prospect he’s keeping a particularly close eye on is his cousin, Umar Nurmagomedov. At the age of just 26, Umar has already amassed a 14-0 record in MMA and a 2-0 run in the UFC.

On Saturday night, he faced his biggest challenge yet when he stepped into the cage to fight Brian Kelleher. The veteran tried his best but ultimately, Umar was far too strong for him and secured a first round submission win.

Following his post-fight interview with Umar, commentator Joe Rogan stumbled pretty badly when attempting to pronounce his name to the crowd. Alongside the rest of the fanbase, Khabib picked up on it and decided to have a bit of fun with Joe on Instagram.

“@joerogan you should have remembered this name. @umar_nurmagomedov is a problem.”

While bantamweight may already be as stacked as it’s ever been, Umar Nurmagomedov could easily be a dark horse in this division in the years to come.

The return of Joe Rogan

Following a handful of controversies related to his podcast and his relationship with Spotify, Joe Rogan was absent from the commentary desk for UFC 271 last month. However, after a short one-PPV hiatus, he returned in time for UFC 272 at the T-Mobile Arena.

Rogan was back to his best in a first-time trio alongside Jon Anik and Michael Bisping with his supporters lauding the popular JRE host.

Moving forward, you’d have to imagine the Ultimate Fighting Championship will do everything they can to keep the star power of Rogan on the broadcast.
