Leeds United's continued interest in Brenden Aaronson shows new head coach Jesse Marsch is keen to add Americans and stars he has worked with before to his squad at Elland Road, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Marsch was appointed as the Whites' boss at the end of last month, just 24 hours after Marcelo Bielsa had been sacked by the club hierarchy.

What's the latest news involving Aaronson?

Aaronson was powerless as, despite grabbing assists in both legs, current employers Red Bull Salzburg were convincingly knocked out of the Champions League by German giants Bayern Munich earlier this week.

The 21-year-old was firmly on Leeds' radar while Bielsa was at the helm, with them seeing bids of £15million and £20million turned down during the January transfer window.

Salzburg are reportedly looking to recoup a fee in the region of £30million for the 18-cap United States international and that figure has seemingly not deterred the Yorkshire giants, even after a change in the dugout.

In fact, according to the Daily Star, Leeds believe Marsch’s strong links to Aaronson could help them to eventually get a deal over the line in the summer.

The report suggests Marsch has told chairman Andrea Radrizzani he is a big admirer of the creative midfielder and has urged the club to push ahead with plans to lure him to Elland Road.

Aaronson is someone Marsch knows well, having selected his fellow American 25 times during his Salzburg tenure.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about the situation?

O'Rourke believes Marsch's intent to sign Aaronson shows he is keen to reunite with some exciting stars he has previously worked with.

The journalist also feels that could result in an influx of American aces heading to Leeds following former RB Leipzig chief Marsch's appointment.

He reckons a transfer strategy is already coming to the surface under Bielsa's successor.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "It's all pointing to there possibly being a lot of Americans and players that Jesse Marsch knows coming to Elland Road in the near future."

Do Leeds have any other American influences?

Leeds are due to be under American ownership within the next two years as, shortly before heading into 2022, The Athletic revealed that the investment arm of NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers has a deal in place to buy the Whites for in excess of £400million.

The report suggests 49ers Enterprises will gain 100 per cent control of the Premier League club by January 2024.

The United States-based group currently own 44 per cent of the shares in Leeds, following further negotiations last November, meaning current chairman Radrizzani’s control has fallen to 56 per cent.
