Bruno Guimaraes made his first Premier League start for Newcastle United on Thursday evening. The £40 million January arrival was given a chance by Eddie Howe away at Southampton due to Joelinton being absent through injury and he certainly rewarded the manager's faith. In the second half of proceedings on the south coast, the former Lyon midfielder put Newcastle 2-1 up with his first ever goal for the Magpies. And to say it was a moment of magic would be something of an understatement.Guimaraes managed to volley the ball into the roof of Fraser Forster's net with a back-heel from a knockdown by fellow January signing Dan Burn.As first goals for a Premier League club go, this is right up there with the greatest ever...

Wow. Guimaraes, take a bow!

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer and his son Will both took to Twitter to praise the wonder-strike from the their team's new South American star.

The technique on display from Guimaraes really was nothing short of outrageous and that Brazilian flair is surely going to serve Newcastle very, very well moving forward.

Guimaraes' second half goal was enough to secure another three points for Newcastle and they're now up to 14th in the Premier League table on 31 points.

Southampton actually took the lead in the first half through Stuart Armstrong, but £25 million man Chris Wood made sure the sides went in level at the break with his first Newcastle goal.

Then Guimaraes weaved his magic after the interval to secure a win that means the Magpies' chances of being relegated to the Championship are now slim to nil.

At this rate, you'd be a fool to bet against Newcastle finishing in the top half of the Premier League, such has been the revival of their form in 2022 thus far.
