Everton could alleviate their financial concerns by selling Goodison Park favourite Richarlison in the summer, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Richarlison headed to Merseyside from Watford, costing up to £50million, in the summer of 2018 and he is the subject of interest from a Premier League rival heading into the upcoming transfer window.

What's the latest news involving Richarlison?

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United have held talks with Richarlison's representatives ahead of potentially lodging a bid at the end of the season.

The report suggests the Red Devils are preparing for life without Cristiano Ronaldo and the Everton man would seek a significant rise on his current salary, while the Toffees would be looking to recoup up to £70million for Richarlison's services.

Everton are in a strong negotiating position as Richarlison's contract, worth £110,000-per-week, is not due to expire until the summer of 2024.

As a result, the Toffees are not necessarily in a rush to sell the Brazilian, who has notched 47 goals over the course of his Goodison Park career.

However, that could change if Frank Lampard, who was appointed as the Merseysiders' boss in January, fails to maintain Everton's Premier League status.

What has Paul Brown said about Richarlison?

Brown believes interest in Richarlison has deteriorated thanks to a loss of form for his current employers.

However, the journalist has not ruled out the possibility of Everton cashing in on the 32-cap Brazil international if a lucrative bid is tabled in the summer.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: "His form has been so up and down that there's been less interest in him.

"He's been more willing to knuckle down and keep his ambitions to himself, perhaps. But he is someone they could earn a bit of money on."

Why could Everton look to cash-in?

Everton are just one point above the relegation zone and, with Richarlison being among the club's highest earners, the Toffees may look to sell the frontman if they drop into the Championship.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are facing up to the prospect of a major wage crisis if they lose their top flight status.

The report suggests the Toffees will be contractually obliged to continue paying players their current basic salaries next season even if they are consigned to the second tier.

The Mail on Sunday have alleged the sanctioning of the billionaire has left Everton with a black hole of up to £300million in their playing budget.
