A new report has claimed that WWE has plans for Cody Rhodes to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38 next month.

It was reported last month, that Cody Rhodes was leaving AEW, which the promotion confirmed minutes after the report emerged.

After that, the reports were followed by others which claimed that Rhodes was in talks with WWE over a sensational return to the company.

However, it's been around four weeks since those reports emerged, and Rhodes has yet to return to WWE, with some questioning if it's even going to happen anymore.

However, a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has suggested that the next few days will be key in this saga, with Cody potentially returning next week.

If he does debut, the former AEW Executive will be feuding with former Universal Champion Seth Rollins, as noted by Meltzer:

WWE had its creative set up for a secret debut of Rhodes imminently, as in the next week or so, regarding how he was debuting and a match that has been confirmed would be with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania

Meltzer explains that WWE's creative team was told to stop working on plans for Rhodes v Rollins until Cody signs his contract, but was quick to point out that the deal is not off:

They were told this week to hold off on working on Rhodes vs. Rollins until Rhodes signs the contract, because they had already worked on it, and then had to stop everything when they weren’t sure if Rhodes was coming. But it was not a dead deal.
