CM Punk, as revealed by multiple sources, was set for a shock inclusion into The Rock vs. John Cena's big WWE WrestleMania 29 match.

WrestleMania 29 in 2013 was main evented by John Cena beating The Rock for the WWE Championship, one year on for their WrestleMania XXVIII match.

The match did feature two of WWE's biggest ever stars, but many fans felt as if it came at the expense of CM Punk, who was one of the most popular wrestlers in the world at the moment.

Punk was the most popular star in wrestling between 2011 and 2013, and fans were unhappy that WWE made him drop his world title at CM Punk in January 2013, just so he could face Cena at 'Mania.

CM Punk has spoken about how he wanted to be part of the match, and felt he earned the main event spot, and it was something that WWE actually considered.

Original plans for the show had Punk actually part of the match between Cena and Rock, making it into a three-way.

During an interview to promote Jumanji in 2016, The Rock spoke about how Punk was supposed to get his wish and be part of what was undoubtedly one of the biggest WrestleMania matches ever.

Rock says that he was supposed to beat Punk for the WWE title at Elimination Chamber in February 2013, but the Royal Rumble the month prior.

The Hollywood megastar explained that the delayed title switch would have seen Punk inserted into the match, but WWE decided to go with its original plan of a singles clash.

In various media interviews since his run with WWE between 2011 and 2013, The Rock has admitted to knowing that fans didn't really dig his two-match series with Cena.

If Punk was added to the match, it likely wouldn't have changed the outcome, but many people felt as if he deserved the spot for all his hard work.

Punk did get a big match at the show instead, facing The Undertaker in the final WrestleMania match before his undefeated streak was ended the year after by Brock Lesnar.
