Luis Suarez has launched a passionate defence of his former Barcelona colleagues Lionel Messi and Neymar after the Paris Saint-Germain pair were booed by their own fans during the club's Ligue 1 clash with Bordeaux.

Following their side's Champions League collapse against Real Madrid earlier this week, furious PSG supporters made their feelings towards the superstar South American duo perfectly clear on Sunday afternoon at the Parc des Princes.

Maurico Pochettino's men had looked on course for a safe passage through to the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition on Wednesday night when they led 2-0 on aggregate with just 45 minutes of the two-legged tie to play.

Enter Real's Karim Benzema, who turned the equation of the match on its head with a blistering 17-minute hat-trick at the Bernabeu.

Suddenly facing elimination, PSG's stable of superstars never looked like regaining a foothold in the contest, with Messi and Neymar both noticeably ineffective in the club's time of need.

There can be no doubt that the result will lead to wholesale changes in Paris this summer. Pochettino is not believed to have a long-term future as boss - and a significant number of his playing staff could also follow him out of the door.

If fan reaction to Messi and Neymar against Bordeaux is anything to go by, many of the club's supporters would like to see both men depart.

Boos rained down from the stands whenever either player touched the ball in PSG's 3-0 victory. Even when Neymar poked the ball home from close range for the home side's second of the match, a significant portion of the crowd jeered.

By contrast, fellow forward Kylian Mbappe - scorer of PSG's two goals in the Real tie - was given a rousing reception by the locals.

Generally considered by the PSG fanbase to be the two players most responsible for their team's European woes, it doesn't appear that supporters plan to let up on Messi or Neymar any time soon.

Following their rough treatment by their own supporters, Atletico Madrid striker Suarez posted a message of support to the pair on his Instagram account, condemning the actions of the PSG fans.

Suarez formed a fearsome attacking trio with Messi and Neymar during their time together at Camp Nou. Dubbed 'MSN', the three men combined to score a scarcely believable 363 goals as a unit between 2014/15 and 2016/17.

At the time, all three were celebrated by fans and pundits alike as being among the very best on the planet. Suarez uploaded a picture of the trio smiling happily during their Barca days to his Instagram story on Sunday, together with a caption reflecting on how quickly sentiments can change in the game.

"As always, football has a very short memory. I'm always with you guys. Love you so much," penned the 35-year-old Uruguayan, per Goal.

The trio's former Barcelona teammate Cesc Fabregas also shared a similar sentiment on Twitter, writing: "Football has no memory whatsoever… it’s a shame. Always with you brothers".

It sums up the ruthless reality of the game that a seven-time Ballon d'Or winner and the world's most expensive player are both subject to such savage criticism from supporters, particularly as PSG are currently 15 points clear at the top of their domestic league.

Messi may arguably be the greatest player ever to set foot on a pitch, but even his sensational past seems to count for little in Paris right now.
