Arsenal would ‘be deadly’ if they could ‘find a 20-30 goal a season striker’ in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Gunners have defied expectations this season and are currently in pole position to claim fourth spot in the Premier League, something very few people predicted back in August.

What is the latest news involving Arsenal?

A top-four finish would see Arsenal qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17 and represent significant progress on their eighth-place finish of last term.

However, things could perhaps be even more promising for Mikel Arteta’s charges if they had a prolific marksman leading the line for them.

In recent years, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has given the capital club a world-class cutting edge in the final third of the pitch, registering 22 top-flight goals in both 2018/19 and 2019/20.

But the Gabon international’s form dropped off for Arsenal in the last 18 months, notching up just 14 strikes in his final 43 league appearances before departing for Barcelona in January.

As a result, attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe is the north London outfit’s leading goalscorer this term with 10 efforts, while first-choice striker Alexandre Lacazette has only found the back on the net on six occasions.

What has Brown said about Arsenal?

Arsenal’s lack of bite up front hasn’t stopped them opening up a one-point gap over fifth-placed Manchester United with three games in hand over the Red Devils, though.

Yet Brown believes they would be a much more potent force if director of football Edu can find a player who can score on a regular basis.

In an exclusive interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “If they could find a 20-30 goal a season striker, they'd be deadly, wouldn't they?”

Who could Arsenal sign?

Arsenal were heavily linked with former Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic before he completed a big-money move to Serie A giants Juventus during the winter window.

Nevertheless, according to Spanish outlet Sport, the Gunners have remained in contact with Real Sociedad over the possibility of snapping up Alexandre Isak after they were unable to secure his services in January.

The report states that the Sweden international would prefer a move to Barcelona, but with their ongoing financial turmoil, it remains to be seen if they can afford him.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star claim Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also on Arteta’s wish list as he looks to complete a significant rebuild at the Emirates Stadium.
