Darren Till explains why MMA is 'greater' than boxing

UFC fighter Darren Till has explained why he believes mixed martial arts is a ‘greater’ sport than boxing.

Over the course of the last few decades, the emergence of MMA has completely changed the face of combat on the world stage as we know it. From Ronda Rousey to Conor McGregor and Pride, Strikeforce and the UFC, the interest levels in the sport have gone through the roof.

It’s true in the United States and the UK but beyond that, there’s a worldwide movement that has generated a surge of new stars rising up through the ranks – especially in the UFC.

While boxing is still going strong, most notably at the elite level, it doesn’t have the same kind of allure as it once did – even if the grandeur is still there.

Some fans feel the need to compare the two and others see them as separate entities. Darren Till, a former UFC title challenger, falls into the former of those categories, using Khamzat Chimaev vs Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 as an example of the best fighting the best.

“Boxing is great, but MMA is greater. The @ufc make the fights the fans and the world wants to see… This doesn’t happen with boxing… In the @ufc the best fight the best. In boxing there’s a millions world champs saying they are the best… Argue in the comments…”

Is Darren Till still a contender?

With four losses in his last five outings, the always-hilarious Darren Till hasn’t been able to live up to the hype in recent years. He still has an entertaining fight style but the middleweight division is a tough place to thrive, which was proven during his latest bout when he was submitted by Derek Brunson in Las Vegas.

The next step for ‘The Gorilla’ isn’t quite clear, although his recent association with Khamzat Chimaev has been viewed as a positive step forward. The 29-year-old has noted how good it is for him to be around someone as positive as Khamzat.

In terms of the MMA/boxing debate, it’s a discussion that rages on long after we’re all gone.
