Nabil Fekir went from showboating to being sent off inside 10 crazy seconds during Sunday’s La Liga clash between Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao.Betis were leading 1-0 with 10 minutes remaining, thanks to Borja Iglesias’s first-half goal, when Fekir began to showboat. The French playmaker did a few kick-ups, much to the delight of the home supporters inside the Estadio Benito Villamarin, before being fouled by Oscar de Marcos. As Fekir went to ground in pain, Athletic winger Iker Muniain went over to the France international and has been accused of picking his opponent’s beard.Fekir reacted by violently kicking out at Muniain and referee Antonio Mateu was left with no option but to show the Betis No. 8 a straight red card.Watch the bizarre passage of play here:

On this angle, it appears that Muniain may well have picked at Fekir's beard:

Muniain’s actions clearly made Fekir see the red mist and fifth-placed Betis, who are competing for a top-four finish in La Liga, will now be without one of their best players for the next three matches.

What did Pellegrini say about Fekir's red card?

Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini, however, sympathised with the France international.

“Out of every 20 fouls, Fekir gets given 10 because he doesn’t jump. The action isn’t justifiable, but it is understandable after what he endures,” he told reporters, per the Daily Star.

“In the end, the person attacked leaves and the aggressor stays on the field playing.”

No player in La Liga has been fouled more times than Fekir this season but he couldn’t help snapping on this occasion.
