Chelsea Womenâs boss Emma Hayes has responded to a hilarious tweet from Blues star Erin Cuthbert, which implied Hayes looked drunk during the celebrations for Sam Kerrâs match-winning goal against Aston Villa in the Women's Super League. Hayesâ team kept the pressure on league leaders Arsenal with a last-gasp victory over Villa on Sunday. It was Kerr who proved to be the difference-maker as the Australian scored her 11th goal of the campaign, to move one clear of Vivianne Miedema in the Golden Boot race. After Kerr slotted home, she was swarmed by Chelseaâs players, and Hayes also got involved in the celebrations.Â
Cuthbertâs brilliant tweet
Midfielder Cuthbert posted an image of Hayes and the team after the game, where the Scottish midfielder appears to be holding off her manager from squaring up to some of the other players.
Obviously, the photo itself is misleading and Hayes was instead looking to congratulate Kerr. However, Cuthbertâs caption has got many laughing.
âWhen your drunk mate wants a fight but you just want to get in the club already @emmahayes1,â she wrote.
Cuthbert also included a love heart in the tweet, showcasing just how much she admires Hayes ââ who has been Chelsea boss since 2012.Â
In response, Hayes posted an emotional message, emphasising how much she âlovesâ Chelsea and her team.
âIâm just looking after my mates,â she said. âOur fans at the 90th minute signing for the team will live with me forever. Weâve got you and youâve got us. I love my club.âÂ
Chelsea win first-game after club sanctions
The result may have meant a lot in the context of the title race, but it was extra meaningful for Hayes and the team, given the sanctions imposed on the club recently.Â
As a result of the UK government punishing owner Roman Abramovich amid Russiaâs invasion of Ukraine, only season ticket holders were able to attend Chelseaâs game at Kingsmeadow.
Hayes has stressed that the club will work through this tough period but admitted she doesnât have all the answers right now.Â
"For all the questions everyone has, players, fans, staff, we have to give the club time to work through that.
"From my end, I'm a leader of this team and we're going to have to navigate a difficult period and one where I don't have all the answers for it.
"I have an amazing dressing room, amazing fans and amazing employees at the club that deserve the very best for us."
Chelseaâs next game is away at Everton on Wednesday.
