Conor McGregor reacts to Tom Brady's NFL comeback

UFC star Conor McGregor has voiced his support for Tom Brady after the iconic quarterback announced his return to the NFL.

Conor McGregor is, unsurprisingly, a pretty big name within the combat sports sphere – but his scope of influence extends far beyond that. ‘The Notorious’ is close friends with a string of notable celebrities and fellow athletes, with Tom Brady being one such example.

The two men have followed each other’s careers over the course of the last few years with McGregor even showing up to the Super Bowl in 2019. In response, Brady has also been there live to see the Irishman compete inside the octagon.

Just six weeks ago Brady revealed to the world that he would be retiring from American football after more than two decades in the sport. In that time he was able to win seven Super Bowl titles, establishing himself as the most successful player in the history of the game.

Now, however, the 44-year-old has opted to come back and have one final run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After hearing of the news McGregor praised the veteran for his ‘champion’ mentality and also highlighted his Irish roots.

“Champions come back stronger and better! Love the sport and it shows! Tom Brady – thank you for the Irish spirit and the big news!”

The Bucs are widely expected to be one of the leading favourites to reach the Super Bowl in Arizona next year.

When will McGregor return?

The primary focus for Conor McGregor is a return of his own – to the sport of mixed martial arts. His last appearance came last summer when he lost to Dustin Poirier via doctor stoppage due to a broken leg.

A parade of potential opponents have been thrown out there including Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal, Poirier again and even the winner of Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje. If it’s the latter, McGregor will get the chance to reclaim the UFC lightweight title that he first won at UFC 205.

It’s not yet known when he’ll get back in there but when he does, you can bet Brady will be one of the millions cheering him on.
