It's back. The biggest event in the horse racing calendar year, Cheltenham Festival 2022 is upon us. Punters all around the globe will be keeping a close eye on the first day and with some big races ahead, we're certainly in for a treat for this year's opener.

Day one last year provided us with some ridiculous races. Huge names such as Shishkin, Honeysuckle and Vintage Clouds all prevailed in their races last year, so we can't wait to see what names are put in lights this time around.

As for the jockeys, Rachael Blackmore stole the show and she'll be looking to do the same again on day one this year in the Champion Hurdle.

So - let's not hold our horses. Here's everything you need to know about Day One of Cheltenham Festival 2022.

How to Watch

The races are all being televised, but they are split between two TV Companies. Racing TV (Sky Channel 426) will be showing all of the races at Cheltenham; however, the first five races each day will be on ITV. Coverage starts at 1 pm each day.

The races on ITV will be free to watch, but Sky Racing TV is part of a Sky subscription. It costs £10 on top of your subscription a month.

Date

Day one of the Cheltenham Festival begins on Tuesday 15th March 2022, with the first race taking place at 1:30 PM GMT.

13:30 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

Runners make their way down the home straight on the Supreme Novices Hurdle.
  • Distance - 2 miles (Grade 1)
  • Going in - Good to Soft
  • Runners - 9

A cracker to kick off the festival. Constitution Hill is currently the favourite going into this, he's looked massively exciting in his previous races.

Willie-Mullins trained Dysart Dynamo can't be ruled out though, he's been winning races left right and centre - so will certainly be a threat to the bookie favourite.

Jonbon, Mighty Potter and Kilcruit are all outsiders who might be worth an E/W bet, but we think personally Dysart Dynamo will bring this one home.

Winner Prediction: Dysart Dynamo

14:10 The Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeple Chase

  • Distance - 2 Miles (Grade 1)
  • Going in - Good to Soft
  • Runners - 11

The second race of the day see's Edwardstone as the bookies nailed on favourite. He's looking like a solid choice ahead of this one.

The ante-post favourite Ferny Hollow had to pull out of this one with a ligament injury, so it's all up in the air as to who will come out victorious.

Blue Lord and Riviere Detel are also very strong runners, but we like the look of outsider Haut En Couleurs for the 14:10 race.

Winner Prediction: Haut En Couleurs

14:50 The Ultima Handicap Chase

Vintage Clouds (R) ridden by Ryan Mania jumps the last to beat Happygolucky (L)
  • Distance - 3 Miles 1 Furlong (Grade 3)
  • Going in - Good to Soft
  • Runners - 24

A more chaotic race with 24 runners, the odds are high for each horse on this one.

It's always hard to predict with so many in the mix, but the bookies have picked out Flouer, Corach Rambler and Frodon as the three front runners.

Last year's winner Vintage Clouds is involved, but we think they'll be a new victor this time around.

Winner Prediction - Corach Rambler

15:30 The Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy

  • Distance - 2 Miles (Grade 1)
  • Going in - Good to Soft
  • Runners - 10

Here's the big one.

Rachael Blackmore is looking to retain her crown in this race, and she is the bookie's favourite by a long shot as Honeysuckle just keeps on winning.

She's looking to become the first mare to win the Champion Hurdle twice, but with some exciting new challengers - can she be stopped?

Appreciate it, Teahupoo and Epatante all have a shot, but we're with the bookies on this one.

Winner Prediction - Honeysuckle

16:10 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle

Honeysuckle ridden by Rachael Blackmore celebrates winning the Close Brothers Mares' Hurdle
  • Distance - 2 Miles 4 Furlongs (Grade 1)
  • Going in - Good to Soft
  • Runners - 12

Here come the girls. Rachael Blackmore features again in this race, this time on Telmesomethinggirl.

Queens Brook is the bookie's favourite, she's always been quite effective on the hurdles.

Tough one this one - but we think Blackmore will prevail again.

Winner Prediction - Telmesomethinggirl

16:50 Boodles Juvenile Hurdle

  • Distance - 2 Miles (Grade 2)
  • Going in - Good to Soft
  • Runners - 22

Gaelic Warrior is who everyone is raving about for this race, his form has been mightily impressive as of late - with many predicting he'll make a mockery of this race.

The Tide Turns and Brazil are the next favourites, but for us, there's only one winner.

Winner Prediction - Gaelic Warrior

17:30 National Hunt Chase

Horses clear the water jump during the Royal Steeple Chase on the second day of The Annual National Hunt Festival
  • Distance - 3 Miles 6 Furlongs (Grade 2)
  • Going in - Good to Soft
  • Runners - 6

The last race of the day features the least amount of Jockeys, six battle it out for the National Hunt Chase.

The two to watch out for in this one are Run Wild Fred and Braeside - both Gordon Elliott's horses, who look very strong coming into this.

Hopefully, this race will cap off a fantastic first day at Cheltenham Festival.

Winner Prediction - Run Wild Fred
