Liverpool: £90m superstar now tipped to leave Anfield

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah could end up departing the club if ‘there’s no agreement in place by the summer’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 29-year-old has been locked in contract negotiations for several months with his existing deal set to expire in the summer of 2023 and an agreement appears some way off from being reached.

What is the latest news involving Salah?

Salah – who is valued at £90m by Transfermarkt – has previously stated that he would ‘love’ to remain at Anfield until the end of his career before claiming that his future ‘depends on what the club wants’.

He then said that he is not asking for ‘crazy stuff’ in the talks over a fresh deal and reiterated whether he stays or goes remains in the hands of the Liverpool hierachy.

However, manager Jurgen Klopp appeared to indicate that the ball is now firmly in Salah’s court when fielding questions over his future earlier this month.

“Mo definitely expects this club to be ambitious,” the German tactician told reporters. “We were in the last few years, and we are.

“It’s Mo’s decision pretty much. The club did what the club can do. That’s how it is. We just have to wait for that. It’s completely fine. No rush in that situation.”

Fellow forwards Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have also entered the final 18 months of their contracts, and as a result, at least one of the famed trio are expected to exit the club in the summer.

What has Jones said about Salah?

Due to Salah’s incredible exploits since returning to English shores back in July 2017, it was widely anticipated that it would be either Mane, Firmino or both players leaving Liverpool ahead of next season.

But with the Egypt international yet to commit his future to the club, Jones believes that it could yet be Salah who seeks pastures new when the market reopens.

He told GiveMeSport: “But at this stage, if there’s no agreement in place by the summer, you have to assume that Salah’s leaving.”

How big a blow would losing Salah be?

Salah has established himself as one of football’s brightest stars during his time in the red half of Merseyside, registering 153 goals and 57 assists in 238 appearances for Klopp’s charges.
