Cheltenham season is upon us, which means nail-biting races, photo finishes and lots more, with day two providing us with yet another fantastic day of racing.

Last year was a fantastic spectacle on day two, Rachael Blackmore won again with Bob Olinger, we saw Put The Kettle On take the Queen Mother Champion Chase and we rounded off the day with Sir Gerhard just nicking it in the Champion Bumper.

The feature race of day two's events has got to be the Queen Mother Champion Chase, but there are plenty of other great races to watch throughout the day with some extremely talented jockeys and horses.

So – let’s not hold our horses. Here’s everything you need to know about Day Two of Cheltenham Festival 2022.

The races are all being televised, but they are split between two TV Companies. Racing TV (Sky Channel 426) will be showing all of the races at Cheltenham; however, the first five races each day will be on ITV. Coverage starts at 1 pm each day.

The races on ITV will be free to watch, but Sky Racing TV is part of a Sky subscription. It costs £10 on top of your subscription a month.

Date

Day two of the Cheltenham Festival begins on Wednesday 16th March 2022, with the first race taking place at 1:30 PM GMT.

13:30 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle

Rachael Blackmore (Jockey of Sir Gerhard) celebrates victory after the Weatherbys Champion Bumper
  • Distance – 2 miles 5 Furlongs (Grade 1)
  • Going in – Good to Soft
  • Runners – 9

Wednesday's racing is kicked off with the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle.

As expected, Sir Gerhard is the clear favourite for this. He's leaps and bounds ahead of the rest and will certainly take some stopping.

Journey With Me and Stage Star could be in with an outside chance, but we think this one is Sir Gerhard's to lose.

Winner Prediction - Sir Gerhard

14:10 Festival Novices' Chase

  • Distance – 3 miles (Grade 1)
  • Going in – Good to Soft
  • Runners – 11

Race two of day two is the Festival Novices' Chase.

Bravemansgame is the bookie's favourite for this one. He's made a fantastic start to life over fences and is heavily fancied to make it five out of five for jockey Harry Cobden.

Ahoy Senor is well suited to the stamina needed to succeed in this race, so he certainly has a shot but our pick is L'Homme Presse. He's unbeaten over fences and has won by a bigger distance each time. We think he'll edge it.

Winner Prediction - L'Homme Presse

14:50 Coral Cup

Heaven Help Us ridden by Richard Condon celebrates after winning the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle
CHELTENHAM, ENGLAND - MARCH 17: Heaven Help Us ridden by Richard Condon celebrates after winning the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle on day two of the Cheltenham Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse on March 17, 2021 in Cheltenham, England. Sporting venues around the UK remain under strict restrictions due to the Coronavirus Pandemic as Government social distancing laws prohibit spectators inside venues resulting in events being held behind closed doors. • Distance – 2 miles 5 Furlongs (Grade 1)
  • Going in – Good to Soft
  • Runners – 26

The Coral Cup is next on our screens.

Saint Felicien and The Shunter are neck and neck as the bookie's favourites at the moment, but in a 26 horse race - anything can really happen.

We like the look of Drop The Anchor, the longer distance suits this horse and we should really see him shine.

Winner Prediction - Drop The Anchor

15:30 Queen Mother Champion Chase

  • Distance – 2 miles (Grade 1)
  • Going in – Good to Soft
  • Runners – 8

Smack bang in the middle is the Queen Mother Champion Chase - the main event of the day.

We have some prolific horses racing here, with names like Shishkin, Chacun Pour Soi and Envoi Allen all involved - you just know this will be an exciting race.

Amongst all the names, the one we think will top the pack is Energumene, but it'll be mighty close between him and Shishkin.

Chacun Pour Soi in with a very good shout for this one as well, bet carefully here.

Winner Prediction - Energumene

16:10 Cross Country Chase

Davy Russell celebrates as he rides Tiger Roll to win The Randox Health Grand National
  • Distance – 3 miles 6 Furlongs (Grade 1)
  • Going in – Good to Soft
  • Runners – 16

An end of an era. Apparently, this will be Tiger Roll's last ever race and wouldn't it just be fitting to top it off with his sixth festival win.

He is the favourite, by some way as well. So he's our pick for this race. I think many will be rooting for him.

Winner Prediction - Tiger Roll

16:50 Grand Annual Chase

  • Distance – 1 mile 7 Furlongs (Grade 3)
  • Going in – Good to Soft
  • Runners – 21

The penultimate race of the day is the Grand Annual Chase.

Three front runners for this race come in the form of Buddy Rich, Andy Dufresne and Amarillo Sky.

We like the look of Buddy Rich, the winner of this race usually comes off the back of a long break - where he fits the criteria.

Winner Prediction - Buddy Rich

17:30 Champion Bumper

Paul Townend riding Ferny Hollow win The Weatherbys Champion Bumper
  • Distance – 2 Mile (Grade 1)
  • Going in – Good to Soft
  • Runners – 22

Facile Vega is bookies' favourite for the last race of day two, but this race is entirely up in the air as well.

Some strong horses in American Mike and Redemption Day challenge the favourite, and we think one of these will prevail.

American Mike is an absolute machine and is our final pick for day two.

Winner Prediction - American Mike
