Everton are in a 'disastrous situation' amid fears over maintaining their Premier League status, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees are in serious danger of suffering the drop and are only separated from the relegation zone by goal difference.

What's the latest news involving Everton?

Frank Lampard was appointed as Everton's manager in January and he was tasked with guiding them away from the Premier League's drop zone after the sacking of Rafa Benitez.

However, the former Chelsea chief has only been able to guide the Merseyside club to one domestic victory since heading into the Goodison Park dugout.

As a result, Everton have still won just two Premier League clashes since overcoming Norwich City in September.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has claimed Everton’s back four is ‘Championship level’ and the Toffees have a ‘real chance’ of being relegated from the top flight for the first time since 1951.

The Toffees' latest setback came at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Liverpool-born defender Conor Coady heading home the winner.

Everton fans reacted to the 1-0 defeat by booing their team off the Goodison Park pitch and Lampard insisted the supporters had every right to show their discontent.

What has Dean Jones said about the situation?

Jones has serious fears over Everton's short-term Premier League future, with relegation being a serious possibility.

The transfer insider feels Lampard has been unable to immediately change the Toffees' fortunes due to there being a lack of confidence in the camp.

As a result, the Merseysiders have failed to boost morale by enjoying an upturn in form under the 43-year-old's guidance.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "It's a disastrous situation that they find themselves in and a lot of what Lampard builds is around momentum and morale. There's none of it."

Are Everton capable of remaining in the Premier League?

Although Everton are sitting precariously above the drop zone, their destiny is in their own hands.

That is because they boast three games in hand over 18th-placed Watford, so it is up to the Toffees to make that advantage count.

Everton are due to face fellow strugglers Newcastle United and Brentford - along with the Hornets - before the season reaches its climax and results garnered from those fixtures could be crucial.

But, by the same token, tough clashes against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and arch-rivals Liverpool also await Lampard's underwhelming charges.
