Matt Targett has other options as well as Newcastle this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The £15.3m-rated defender is currently on loan at Aston Villa and is expected to leave the Midlands outfit in some capacity at the end of the season.
How has Targett performed for Newcastle?
Targett has quickly gotten over the disappointment of being forced to leave Villa by making a superb start to life at Newcastle.
He has started six of Newcastle’s seven games following his January arrival, the expectation being the victory over his parent club when he was ineligible.
And Targett has played a key role in the Magpies climbing away from the bottom-three, with Eddie Howe’s side currently 10 points above the relegation zone despite suffering a first defeat of 2022 at Chelsea on Sunday.
Targett’s importance to the side has been highlighted by his WhoScored rating, which is the third-best in the Newcastle squad behind Kieran Trippier and Allan Saint-Maximin.
Despite his form, Targett, who’s made 133 Premier League appearances in his career, Jones said that there’s no guarantee the 26-year-old will end up making his loan move permanent at the end of the campaign.
What did Jones say about Targett?
When asked whether Newcastle will sign Targett permanently at the end of the season, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I know that he is open to other options.”

Who else has been linked with Targett?
With Targett’s future beyond this season still up in the air, it’s still unclear where the left-back will be playing his football next term.
According to the Chronicle, Newcastle have already agreed a fee of around £15m with Aston Villa for Targett’s services, but the Toon Army face competition for the defender’s services.
That’s because Football League World believe that Fulham, who are on the verge of making a swift return to the Premier League, are monitoring Targett’s situation ahead of the summer window.
Targett spent the 2017-2018 campaign on loan with the Cottagers and quickly became a regular following his January arrival, making 21 appearances to help Fulham win promotion back to the top-flight.
Where Targett ends up next season remains to be seen, but at £15m, he could prove a snip for whoever ends up winning the race for his signature.
