Newcastle United ace Joelinton has got his career back on track thanks to an 'extraordinary' revival under Magpies head coach Eddie Howe, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Howe was unveiled as the Tynesiders' boss in November and the change in the St James' Park dugout has paid off for Joelinton.

What's the latest news involving Joelinton?

Having been signed as a frontman for £40million from German side Hoffenheim in 2019, Joelinton has only registered 12 goals in 107 appearances.

The Mail on Sunday have claimed the Brazilian has gone from being one of the Premier League's biggest flops to one of the first names on the Newcastle team-sheet under Howe.

The report claims a positional change has been the catalyst for his upturn in form after his first Magpies goal only came after 2,130 minutes of action.

Joelinton has become a favourite for Howe, nailing down a regular spot in the starting line-up prior to being ruled out of Newcastle's last two matches due to an injury.

Howe has revealed the 25-year-old's work rate and 'brilliant' defensive capabilities have resulted in him being keen to mould Joelinton into a central midfielder.

Joelinton's performances resulted in him scooping Newcastle's player of month award for February.

What has Keith Downie said about Joelinton?

Downie is astounded by Joelinton's change in fortunes under the guidance of Howe.

The Sky Sports reporter feels the former Bournemouth boss has transformed the Brazilian's fortunes and changed the Magpies supporters' perception of Joelinton.

When asked whether he could remember seeing a star turn his career around in such a short space of time, Downie told GIVEMESPORT: "Honestly, I can't. It's been extraordinary and he has gone from one extreme to the other.

"There were people laughing at him last season, the season before and earlier in this season. He would fall over the ball and be laughed at by his own fans."

When is Joelinton likely to return from injury?

Joelinton could be in contention for a place in Newcastle's squad ahead of tonight's Premier League clash with relegation-threatened Everton.

That is because Howe confirmed Joelinton was close to being involved in last weekend's defeat to Chelsea but not risked after failing to complete a training session 24 hours earlier.

Joelinton is understood to have suffered a knock ahead of the victory over Southampton last week, meaning he has missed the Magpies' last two fixtures.
