West Ham: 'Trust issue' between David Moyes and 'unbelievable' £30m star

West Ham United boss David Moyes does not trust Said Benrahma despite the winger being among the Hammers’ best attacking options, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Benrahma joined the Irons from London rivals Brentford in a deal which could be worth as much as £30million in 2020, but he has failed to nail down a regular starting spot despite exciting glimpses of what he can offer.

What’s the latest news involving Benrahma?

Benrahma was restored to West Ham’s starting line-up for the 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday and he staked a claim for remaining in the first XI for tomorrow’s Europa League last-16 second leg against Spanish side Sevilla by notching two assists.

The game-changing performance came after the 26-year-old had been made to settle for substitute appearances in recent weeks, having been on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

However, Moyes still refused to praise the 17-cap Algeria winger too much after the victory at the London Stadium.

The Scotsman was keen to point out that Benrahma had been poor in certain stages of the Premier League encounter and challenged the wide-man to be more consistent over the course of 90 minutes.

There was tension between the pair when the ex-Brentford star was substituted against Newcastle United last month, with Benrahma showing discontent after being withdrawn by Moyes for a Premier League record 18th time this season.

What has Dean Jones said about Benrahma?

Jones believes Benrahma has yet to fully win over Moyes despite the ex-Everton and Manchester United chief being the man to welcome him to the London Stadium.

The transfer insider feels the winger is capable of being one of West Ham’s biggest attacking threats but needs to be more consistent in the final third of the pitch.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s clearly a trust issue there with Benrahma.

“You can tell that by the number of minutes he gets and the times that he’s given those minutes, but Benrahma can be unbelievable on his day.”

Is Benrahma likely to start against Sevilla?

Benrahma took his tally of goal contributions up to 14 for the season by grabbing a pair of assists against Villa, so he will be going into the Europa League last-16 second leg against Sevilla full of confidence.

The Algerian’s productivity could prove crucial as a Munir El Haddadi strike means West Ham are heading into the encounter with a 1-0 deficit to overcome.

Moyes has recently suggested Benrahma is ‘talented’ and ‘can make the difference’, so he appears likely to be included from the off at the London Stadium.
