Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin should start every game when he's fit, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Injuries have restricted the £40.5m-rated striker to less than 10 Premier League appearances this season, with Frank Lampard even leaving him on the bench for the defeat to Newcastle recently.

How has Calvert-Lewin performed this season?

Calvert-Lewin has generally done well when he's been fit, but the 2021-2022 campaign has been largely forgetful for the Toffees' talisman.

In his nine top-flight outings, he's scored three times, although each of those goals came in the opening three games of the season back in August.

Since suffering a foot injury against Brighton in the final game of that month, the England frontman has played just six matches and has been particularly in and out of the team of late.

He did enjoy a run in the side towards the end of January but was an unused substitute for the 3-1 defeat at Newcastle before missing the Manchester City match with an abductor injury and the loss to Wolves last weekend through illness.

Calvert-Lewin could return for Everton's crucial clash against Newcastle at Goodison Park on Thursday night, and Jones has urged Frank Lampard to start him whenever possible.

What did Jones say about Calvert-Lewin?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I just think he has to play. He has that presence, and he lets Everton play in the way they want to."

Will Calvert-Lewin start against Newcastle?

While Everton have a huge FA Cup game at Crystal Palace to come this weekend, if there's any game to risk Calvert-Lewin, it would be the meeting with the Magpies.

This is the Toffees' biggest Premier League fixture for several seasons, knowing that anything other than three points will leave them in serious trouble at the wrong end of the standings.

Speaking ahead of the game, Lampard said that Calvert-Lewin will be assessed having returned to light training after missing out against Wolves.

He said: "Dom trained lightly yesterday on the back of not feeling great. We'll see how he is this afternoon and then look toward the squad for tomorrow."

With the magnitude of the game surely in the back of Lampard's mind, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Calvert-Lewin in the starting line-up.
