Marcus Rashford: Man Utd star confronts fans after Atletico performance

Marcus Rashford‘s cameo against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of Manchester United‘s last-16 Champions League tie was absolutely horrendous.

That description of the performance certainly isn’t hyperbole either. The England international entered the fray in the second half and failed to produce anything positive.

Instead of taking the game to Atletico with United trailing 1-0, Rashford simply gave away needless fouls and surrendered possession on the rare occasions in which the ball was at his feet.

The 2021/22 season has been an absolute nightmare for Rashford thus far and Tuesday night was perhaps the lowest point of all.

On social media, the 24-year-old’s display was heavily criticised and fans outside Old Trafford after the game also made their feelings very clear towards the forward while the team were walking to the coach.

Rashford didn’t take the barrage of criticism very well, though.

Footage has now emerged showing the Manchester-born player losing his rag a tad with supporters when they questioned his latest sub-par performance.

Rashford stopped, approached the crowd in an angry manner and then appeared to respond with a hand gesture while walking back towards the coach.

The footage is available for you to view below and we apologise for the bad language towards the end.

Rashford was not happy, but he has since replied to the footage with a statement on Twitter in which he tells his side of the story and explains how the hand gesture he used wasn’t a rude one.

Rashford’s statement in response to the footage

The Englishman showing a degree of frustration is understandable given his on-pitch struggles in recent times, but you can’t really respond to fans like that and that’s why he’s apologised for his actions.

Fair play, Marcus.

Rashford’s future at United is certainly up in the air right now and a summer exit is starting to look like a distinct possibility – something which would have been unthinkable just a year ago.

A transfer away might be the wisest decision, because if something doesn’t change very quickly with regards to his form, he will certainly miss out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2022 World Cup.
