Barcelona are reportedly keen to mine the free transfer market ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Having used the Bosman ruling to scoop Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero last summer, the Catalan giants seem poised to use similar tactics once again amidst their financial crisis.
While the Blaugrana are starting to show the sort of progress and excitement that has long been touted for the Xavi era at Camp Nou, it can’t be forgotten that the club is still limping through a difficult period.
Barcelona close to triple swoop
However, it would appear as though Barcelona are set to secure a stunning triple swoop before the summer window even peers over the horizon and all without spending a single penny in transfer fees.
That’s because Marca have remarkably reported that Barcelona “have already virtually closed three signings,” in what would prove a massive boost to their hopes of challenging for the La Liga title once again.
The report goes on to claim that Chelsea‘s Andreas Christensen and AC Milan’s Franck Kessie have both agreed to join the European powerhouse when their current contracts expire on June 30.
Then, just to make things even better, it’s claimed that a “deal is almost finalised” to bring Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui through the door, too, with just a few minor negotiations required before total agreement.

Barcelona’s exciting potential XI of 2022/23
Now, it’s fair to say that’s an impressive trio of signings and it could well spur on Xavi’s project at Barcelona, which is already accelerating to a point where there is now light at the end of the tunnel.
As such, here at GIVEMESPORT, we couldn’t help wondering how Barcelona might line up for the 2022/23 season when you consider that Christensen, Kessie and Mazraoui are purportedly set to sign.
To do so, we’ve done our level best at getting into the tactical mind of Xavi and produced the XI that we think he might choose to play next season in a world where all three free transfers are sewn up.
And it’s not a spoiler to say that the line-up is incredibly exciting, so be sure to gaze into the crystal ball of Barcelona’s future by checking out their potential XI for 2022/23 down below:
Watch out, Real Madrid, watch out.
A stunning line-up for Xavi
While Barcelona might not have a superstar like Kylian Mbappe set to walk through the door in the summer, you can’t help looking at the potential XI at Xavi’s fingertips and remaking at just how well balanced it is.
The thoroughly-exciting Mazraoui would instantly become one of the first names on the team sheet, ousting the inconsistent Sergiño Dest and the ageing Dani Alves on Barca’s right defensive flank.
And although Ronald Araújo continues to impress in the heart of defence, you’d be hard-pressed to argue that he’d deserve to start in place of Christensen, who could become the club’s long-term replacement for Gerard Pique.
However, by far the biggest selection headache for Xavi would be striking a balance in the midfield three because although Kessie can play as a deep-lying midfielder, he’s much better suited to the box-to-box role.
So, while our final selection might seem brutal on Frenkie de Jong, we’re giving Busquets the benefit of the doubt as the most natural CDM and we simply couldn’t bring ourselves to drop Pedri.
Marry that to an exciting front three benefitting from the return of Fati and there’s good reason to think that Barcelona’s triple swoop could return them to La Liga and Champions League contention.
By the same token, given just how bonkers the fast few years have been at Camp Nou, we probably shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves at this stage. After all, in football, anything can happen.
