Khabib Nurmagomedov is arguably one of the greatest fighters to ever step into the Octagon.

With a record of 29-0 in MMA, there’s no doubting he is a true great across mixed martial arts and specifically within the UFC.

Hailing from Dagestan, Russia, a lot of his success can be pinned on his upbringing.

When Khabib first started making headlines in the UFC, video footage of him wrestling with a bear when he was younger was stumbled upon. Most probably no older than eight, Khabib is videoed rolling around with the bear in what doesn’t solely seem playful.

It is this sort of unique upbringing for Khabib, and many of his cousins and close friends, that has propelled so many from the Dagestan area into MMA stardom.

These days, Khabib has retired from fighting and spends a lot of his time coaching in the corner of various Russian fighters. He has also just set up his own MMA promotion Eagle FC, which he is hoping can be the steppingstone for many young fighters who are looking to make it to the UFC.

However, before he started to coach and promote, he was a real menace to the lightweight division, causing serious issues for talented and experienced fighters with his wrestling.

A rare video has recently surfaced of what appears to be a young Khabib training in Dagestan alongside his peers. The video begins with his alarm going off and awakening him and his training partners.

They then begin their gruelling exercise, which starts with intense sprints up a mountain, presumably in the Caucasus region.

Once in the mountains, the training starts with circuits involving squats, sprints, pull ups and a bit of weight-lifting.

These training methods will be even more effective up in the mountains, that far above sea level, as the air will be thinner, meaning the training is even more gruelling than it may first appear.

The video also shows Khabib doing a bit of pad-work with a training partner. Despite his main attribute being wrestling, it is always important in mixed martial arts to have a varied skill set.

The training video gives us a glimpse into the gruelling efforts Khabib went through in order to get into shape.

It's safe to say fans who have seen the video have been quick to compliment the Russian and simply be in awe of what he put his body through at such an early age.

One user replied saying: "All that s***, and at like 3,000 feet above sea level…..no surprise you didn’t ever really see him gas."

Another simply commented on the surrounding areas, saying: "No fancy gyms. Just the earth and the will of man."

One was also quick to applaud the leadership skills Khabib demonstrated, stating: "Khabib waking up immediately from his alarm then proceeding to wake up the team. Some leader s***."

The workout in the video is only a fraction of what he must have done in order to reach the top and stay there, and I have no doubt he’ll be passing these gruelling, but effective, training methods onto the younger generation of fighters.

Eternal MMA 64 takes place early Saturday morning. The prelims will be streamed live on GiveMeSport’s official Facebook page, while the main card will be broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass.
