Manchester City will be an 'almost unstoppable' force if superstar striker Erling Haaland heads to the Etihad Stadium from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Haaland is expected to leave Signal Iduna Park during the summer transfer window, when a £62.8million release clause written into his contract will become active.

What's the latest news involving Haaland?

According to Guillem Balague, Manchester City are one of three clubs to have held discussions with Haaland over a potential switch at the end of the season.

Balague claims La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been involved in talks and the striker is expected to make a decision over his future in the coming days.

But it appears the reigning Premier League champions could be the frontrunners for Haaland's signature as Dortmund adviser Matthias Sammer has hinted, via Goal, the 21-year-old would benefit from working under City boss Pep Guardiola.

City are reportedly willing to make the 15-cap Norway international the Premier League's highest-paid player by offering a deal worth £500,000-per-week.

Haaland's agent Mino Raiola and his father Alf-Inge, a former City midfielder, also stand to benefit from the situation as they will be in line for massive payments if a switch to the Etihad Stadium comes to fruition.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Haaland?

O'Rourke believes Haaland's arrival at City would come as a hammer blow to other clubs in the Premier League as no-one would be able to stand between them and the title.

The journalist is certain the 6 ft 4 star would make Guardiola's side an even more formidable force in the final third of the pitch.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "Manchester City will be almost unstoppable next season if they get Haaland in that team.

"With the amount of chances that they create, you'd imagine he would score a lot of goals."

Why is Haaland on City's radar?

There is no doubt that Haaland is a goal machine as he has found the back of the net nearly as many times as the amount of appearances he has made for Dortmund.

Despite still being in the early stages of his career, the Leeds-born Norway international has already racked up more than 160 goal contributions over the course of his club career.

Haaland is valued at £135million by Transfermarkt, so meeting his release clause would result in City attracting an in-demand frontman at a bargain price.

Guardiola is also known to be a huge fan, having previously described the Dortmund man as 'fantastic'.
