The former two-time heavyweight world champion often takes part in fan Q&As on his official Twitter account to pass the time.
Foreman – who was himself considered one of the most entertaining fighters of his generation having been in there with the likes of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier – was asked by a fan for his favourite boxer to watch today and did not hesitate to mention Canelo Alvarez.
He wrote in reply: “Canelo gets better every time out I like that.”
This isn’t the first time Foreman has spoken highly of the Mexican, previously claiming that he ‘punches like a heavyweight’ and ‘he’s naturally fast like a lightweight’.
Foreman told Fight Hub TV in 2019: “I like all of the boxers but Canelo Alvarez is my favourite because he can fight.
“He thinks he’s like a heavyweight. He punches like a heavyweight and he’s naturally fast like a lightweight.
“The best fighter in the world is Canelo Alvarez right now.”
Foreman certainly isn’t the only one who thinks that way as Floyd Mayweather‘s uncle Jeff also seems to share that train of thought.
Alvarez, now 31, was just 23 when he faced Mayweather in 2013, losing a majority decision.
But Jeff thinks the Mexican superstar has improved as a fighter in every aspect of his game.
He told Tha Boxing Voice: “I have Canelo in the highest concepts.
“I think he is the best fighter in the world, I see, now, that Canelo is the best boxer in the world.
“It’s almost like when Floyd was the best in the world, when you’re the best, I can’t choose another.
“In the beginning he wasn’t so good in defense, now he shakes his head.
“You can see that he has worked on a lot of things. He’s not exactly the same as Floyd, but I think he did copy things.
“Canelo has upped his game. He’s a much better fighter than he was when he fought Floyd.
“Like I said, I think that he took a page out of Floyd’s book to some degree. Not all of it, but to some degree, and now he’s the master now.
“Floyd’s gone, you know, and Canelo’s doing all the things that Floyd has done.”
