Yes, tactical insight and quality analysis are whatâ€™s most important when it comes to sitting in the studio for a big game, but thereâ€™s no denying that a certain level of X-factor helps to bring in viewers too.

And it seems as though Crouch is on a roll at the moment because just days after his brilliant quip about Mohamed Salah's contract situation, he was back at it again during BT Sport's Champions League coverage.

That's because the 41-year-old partook in an amusing segment with Owen Hargreaves and Steve McManaman where the pundits on the sofa reacted to their debuts in the competition.

So, that just happened to entail Crouch giving his commentary on Liverpool's 2-1 win at Real Betis in September 2005, which was the Reds' first game in the Champions League proper since that night in Istanbul.

However, this is 'Crouchy' we're talking about here, so you can rest assured that it wasn't a drab walkthrough of his memories that night, but rather a light-hearted and self-deprecating reel of jokes.

There's something about Crouch sarcastically dishing out superlatives that can't help bring a smile to your face with McManaman also pointing out that he technically provided the pre-assist for Luis Garcia's goal.

However, as much as Crouch might entertain us all by poking fun at his own performances, it goes without saying that he enjoyed an underrated Champions League career during his time on Merseyside.

Besides, you only have to look at the fact that only Kaka outscored Crouch in the following European season with Liverpool going all the way to the final to see that respect should be put on his name.
