Kamaru Usman has met Conor McGregor’s welterweight belt wishes with a brutally cold murder threat.

Notorious, who has been out of the Octagon since suffering a broken leg against Dustin Poirier last July, has remained in the limelight.

Now eyeing a return to the UFC this summer, McGregor has made clear that he plans to compete for the welterweight belt and dethrone Usman as champion.

A plan that has been met with an icy warning from the Nigerian, who currently ranks as the UFC’s best pound for pound fighter.

It read: “You guys want a murder scene in the Octagon.”

Usman has reigned over the welterweight division since defeating Tyron Woodley in March 2019. Since then, he has defended his title on five occasions – twice against Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, and once against Gilbert Burns.

Usman is currently set to fight Leon Edwards in July, a matchup that the Nigerian Nightmare won back in 2015.

McGregor is demanding that if and when Usman defends his title for a sixth time, he wants next.

In an interview with the Mac Life YouTube channel, the Irishman stated: "I believe versus Usman for the 170lb title for my comeback is the one I’m eyeballing at the minute.

"I haven’t really said that to no one to be honest, I’ve only been thinking that for the last couple of days because for what cut the weight? I’ve already won the 155lb title, I got myself down to a lightweight frame, but I’m big now.

"I feel big, I feel strong, I feel healthy, I’ve got good energy. I’m coming back after a gruesome injury. I do not want to deplete myself, there should be no need to deplete myself.”

McGregor has fought only three times at welterweight, through which he has added two wins and a single loss to his career record of 22-6-0.

His first appearance at welterweight ended in a loss to Nate Diaz in 2016. He followed that up with a win over Diaz just five months later, and most recently defeated Donald Cerrone in 2019.

But while McGregor’s welterweight resume appears outdated and a little short for a chance at a title shot, he has never been one to doubt himself, and has good reason to believe he has a shot.

Besides, having added two stone since his last bout, competing at 170 pounds would be the quickest way back to action for McGregor, and to avoid a huge weight cut.  

He continued: “No one’s ever obtained three knockouts in three weight divisions moving up like I have already, but no one’s ever obtained three UFC world titles cross three divisions like I will do also if we make this fight."
