Italy produced a dramatic finish against Wales as they became the first team to suffer a Six Nations defeat to the Italians in seven years. It finished Wales 21-22 Italy.

Italy’s Edoardo Padovani’s late try played a huge part in completing the turnaround to get a very late but memorable victory in Cardiff.

This was historic as it ended the visitors’ 36-game losing streak in the competition and it was understandably greeted with huge celebrations.

At half-time, Italy were 12-7 in front, which was the first time they had been ahead at the interval since 2019. Wales thought they had recovered in the second half, however, as they got themselves back into the lead.

Italy had other ideas, though, as they managed to snatch the win in the last few moments to hand Wales a humiliating defeat in front of their own fans.

A viral video went around soon after on Twitter as one fan posted a clip of the winning try with Nessun dorma playing in the background. This will be rubbing salt into Welsh wounds, but surely they can still appreciate this moment of heroic greatness.

The Wales coach Wayne Pivac said that this was an “unacceptable performance” as more questions are being asked about his future.

Adam Beard, the Wales vice-captain, also shared his feelings on the match as he claimed: “For a lot of us this is our worst experience in a Welsh jersey."

A lot of Welsh fans will be echoing these thoughts as it is also probably one of the worst experiences whilst supporting their country.

Some Italians would have also been in tears, however, these would have been tears of joy. With their first victory in the Six Nations for seven years, you can understand why some of the players were crying on the pitch at full-time.

This would have been an incredible experience for the young players on the pitch, as the average age of the squad is just 23. They are the youngest team in the competition and will be looking to build on this victory.

If they keep developing as a group and achieve their potential, then who knows how far this squad can go.

As for Wales, confidence will be at an all-time low, so they will need to regroup and reassess very quickly to try and get this awful performance out of their system.
