Roma's Lorenzo Pellegrini scored outrageous free-kick vs Lazio

AS Roma could not have enjoyed a better first half in their derby match against Lazio on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho‘s side went 1-0 ahead with just 56 seconds on the clock, former Chelsea man Tammy Abraham finding the back of the net once again.

The England international then grabbed his second of the match in the 22nd-minute of play to put Roma in a very commanding position.

Mourinho’s men weren’t done there in the opening 45 minutes, though.

Just before the half-time interval, Lorenzo Pellegrini put the home side 3-0 ahead with what is perhaps the best free-kick goal of 2022 so far.

From around 35 yards out, the talented midfielder unleashed an absolute thunderbolt from his right peg that flew into the top corner at a ridiculous speed.

It is not physically possible to hit a free-kick better than that. Three Manuel Neuers could have been stationed in the goal and the ball would still have rippled the back of the net.

Take a bow, Pellegrini!

Roma were unable to add to their goal tally in the second half against Maurizio Sarri’s side, but a 3-0 derby win is still a huge result for the the Giallorossi.

They are now two points clear of Lazio in the table and are only eight behind Juventus in fourth position.

Given the unpredictability of the 2021/22 Serie A campaign up until now, you’d be a fool to bet against Roma overturning that deficit in what remains of the season.

After the international break, Mourinho’s team travel to Sampdoria for what will be a very tough league game and following that, they take on Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final tie.

Roma will be out for revenge in that match, as they were beaten 6-1 by the Norwegian side in the group stage of the competition…
