Jack Catterall slams Josh Taylor for having 'zero class'

English boxer Jack Catterall has hit back at rival Josh Taylor following the champion’s rankings remarks on social media.

Back on February 26, Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall went toe to toe with the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring light-welterweight titles being on the line. While many felt as if Catterall did enough to get the nod, it was Taylor who had his hand raised via split decision.

The controversy led to widespread scrutiny within the boxing world, to the point where members of parliament were even getting involved.

The result of the match was reported to the police and after it was announced that Catterall had dropped to #3 in the WBO rankings, Taylor used the police incident as a way to poke fun at his 28-year-old rival.

“Quick, you better call the police”

Catterall, in response, noted that Taylor was a man of “zero class”.

Some have argued that the decision for the Scot to come out victorious last month was in the hands of the judges and the judges alone. However, ‘The Tartan Tornado’ hasn’t been shy in celebrating his maintained status as champion – despite many calling Catterall the true champ.

Will we see Taylor vs Catterall 2?

With Taylor hinting at changing his weight class and Catterall falling to third in the rankings, it seems unlikely that these two men will collide again anytime soon.

Down the road, though, it does feel like a virtual inevitability that they’ll fight once more – if only because of the fan appetite for it.

Catterall wasn’t expected to give Taylor too many problems but in the end, he was precisely the kind of foe that Josh needed to push him to the limit.

There have been mandatory challengers used as little more than stepping stones in the past and yet, despite the odds, ‘El Gato’ showcased in those 12 rounds why he belongs at the elite level.

If Catterall had been the one to win the belts then there’s a good chance we could’ve seen them run it back but as of this writing, Taylor is ready to ride off into the sunset.
