Everton hold the option to terminate Frank Lampard's Goodison Park contract at the end of the season, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Lampard was appointed as the Toffees' manager on deadline day of the January transfer window, but he has been unable to turn the Merseyside club's season around.

What's the latest news involving Lampard?

Everton were denied a place in the FA Cup semi-finals after they succumbed to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Premier League rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The latest setback resulted in Lampard questioning his players' mentality and suggesting 'there is only so much you can keep trying to butter someone up to give them confidence'.

It came just a matter of days after a stoppage time Alex Iwobi strike had fired Everton to victory over Newcastle United and allowed Lampard to pick up just his second Premier League win since taking charge.

Ahead of going to battle with Europa League quarter-finalists West Ham United after the international break, the Toffees have suffered six defeats in 10 fixtures under Lampard's guidance.

Everton are still at serious risk of dropping into the Championship as they are just three points clear of the relegation zone.

What has Dean Jones said about Lampard?

Jones has revealed that Everton could part company with Lampard at the end of the season and not have to pay a penny in compensation.

It comes after the Toffees ensured the agreement was written into the two-and-a-half year contract Lampard signed when he succeeded Rafa Benitez.

Jones understands the break clause can only be exercised by the Toffees and not the 43-year-old.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: "From what I'm told, Everton do have the option to part ways with Lampard at the end of the season.

"I think it's only a one-way thing, so it doesn't count for Lampard too, as far as I understand it."

Will Lampard keep Everton in the Premier League?

As things stand, Everton are in 17th place and their destiny is in their own hands.

That is because the Toffees have two games in hand over Watford, who are currently just inside the dreaded drop zone.

Despite only being appointed on deadline day, Lampard still succeeded in welcoming Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli to Goodison Park before the closure of the transfer window.

While neither have made a major impact on Merseyside, Everton still have to go head-to-head with the likes of Burnley and Brentford. Those fixtures could play a key role in determining where Everton end up ahead of next season.
