The former dual champion has been out of action since breaking his leg in his last fight against Dustin Poirier back in July.
It looks as though the Irishman’s well-anticipated return could be on the cards for this summer, with Usman the man in his sights.
The Nigerian hasn’t kept his disdain for Notorious a secret in recent weeks, but an amusing video clip has re-emerged in the wake of their recent feud, showing him consistently imitating the Irishman during press conferences and interviews over the years.
In the aftermath of his title defence against Gilbert Burns, he may have even feigned an Irish accent when saying: “They need to show me some activity.”
That’s a call back to McGregor’s 2016 comments about how he wasn’t keen on fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov.
However, he does seem keen to take on Usman, who’s undefeated in his 15 UFC fights.
After becoming the first-ever simultaneous double-champ in the UFC, the 33-year-old is hoping to be the promotion’s maiden three-weight champion.
“Myself versus Usman for the 170lbs title in my comeback fight is the one I’m eyeballing at the minute,” he told The Mac Life.
“Why cut the weight? I’ve already won the 155lbs title.
“I got myself to a lightweight frame, but you know, I’m big now. I feel big, I feel strong, I feel healthy, I’ve got good energy.
“I’m coming back from a gruesome injury, I don’t want to be depleting myself
“I feel confident against Usman – a jab-happy, sloppy, orthodox wrestler with no submissions whatsoever. What’s he going to do? Where’s the danger here?”
Usman, who looks set to take on Leon Edwards in his next defence, took to social media to react to McGregor’s comments about a potential fight.
“You guys want a murder scene in the octagon #p4p” he tweeted to his over 700,000 followers on Twitter.
