Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch is set to make Helder Costa 'available for transfer' when the window reopens in the summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Marsch was appointed as the Whites' boss last month and it appears he will not give the winger an opportunity to impress during his first full season at the helm.

What's the latest news involving Costa?

Costa joined Spanish giants Valencia on a season-long loan last summer, with it becoming clear the 28-year-old did not feature in then-chief Marcelo Bielsa's plans.

The agreement includes an option for the La Liga outfit to make Costa's move permanent, but it appears unlikely they will take advantage of that as he has been restricted to 11 domestic starts at the Mestalla Stadium.

Leeds forked out £16million to sign Costa from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, following a loan spell at Elland Road, but the big-money switch has not worked out for Leeds or the two-cap Angola international.

Although Costa helped the Whites to clinch the Championship title prior to joining on a permanent basis, he went on to only feature in the starting line-up 13 times as the Yorkshire giants ended their 16-year absence from the Premier League last season.

Costa's temporary transfer to Spain has resulted in him becoming a forgotten man at Leeds despite racking up 19 goal contributions in 71 appearances for the club.

What has Dean Jones said about Costa?

Jones believes Costa has already featured in a Leeds shirt for the final time as Marsch will look to offload the wide-man at the end of the season.

However, the transfer insider understands that Valencia will not look to keep Costa on their books heading into next term.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think it's most likely that Helder Costa will be made available for transfer.

"Valencia are not going to sign him but they are still open to him being moved on."

Why will Marsch opt against giving Costa a chance?

Costa's favoured position is on the right wing, which Raphinha has made his own since completing a £17million switch from Rennes in 2020.

The 25-year-old has proven to be more of an attacking threat in the final third, with him finding the back of the net 15 times and registering a further 12 assists in 59 outings.

Costa's £46,000-per-week contract still has more than two years remaining, so it would make sense for Marsch to get a big-earner off Leeds' books if he does not feature in the forefront of his plans.
