Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson is seen by many as one of the most underrated fighters to ever fight in the UFC.

The first champion of the flyweight division when it was introduced to the UFC, Johnson combined striking and wrestling excellently, as one must do in mixed martial arts, and was an extremely dominant champion.

Certainly one of the highlights of his career came in his win against Ray Borg.

Not only did it secure him the win, it was also a show-stopping submission – the likes of which are rarely seen due to the incredibly advanced technique DJ showed.

Back in 2017, at UFC 216, Demetrious Johnson was going up against Ray Borg for the flyweight belt. Johnson was already on 10 title defences and was the overwhelming favourite to win the fight.

The fight was somewhat predictable, as Johnson dominated the entire fight. Both in the standup and on the ground, the gap in skill was obvious for all to see. It looked as though DJ was heading to a unanimous decision as the fifth round approached.

However, the Mighty Mouse had something else in mind.

As Borg and Johnson scuffled on the ground, the former tried to get back to his feet. He was successful in doing so, but certainly wasn’t in a comfortable position.

Johnson had the advantage and suplexed Borg to the ground, but before his opponent even hit the ground, Johnson managed to lock in a flying armbar.

It looked like he had it in tight, and Borg was scrambling helplessly to get out. This was to no avail, though, and Borg had no other option but to tap. Johnson had secured his 11^th title defence and in serious fashion.

This was undoubtedly one of the best submission moves ever seen in MMA, not just in the UFC. The level of skill and technique to be able to lock in the armbar on the way down from a suplex isn’t something that we’re likely to see any time soon.

DJ wasn’t in the UFC for long after this fight, though, finally losing his flyweight belt to Olympic gold medallist Henry Cejudo in his next fight. Shortly after, he was transferred to Asian MMA promotion One Championship, where he continued to do damage.

March 26 sees him go up against one of the most exciting fighters on the planet currently, Thailand’s Rodtang Jitmuangnon, in a special crossover MMA/Muay Thai event which will be the first of its kind.
