Everton supporters would ‘probably be fuming’ if the club sold star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park in recent months after establishing himself as one of the Premier League's top marksmen.

What is the latest news involving Calvert-Lewin?

A report in the Daily Star back in January claimed that Arsenal were set to make a move for Calvert-Lewin if they failed to sign former Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic prior to his switch to Juventus.

The Sun then claimed that fellow Premier League outfit West Ham United were interested in snapping up the 11-cap England international as they continue to search for some competition to Michail Antonio.

However, a formal offer failed to materialise for Calvert-Lewin in January – who is valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt – and he ended up staying put at Everton.

But with the Toffees continuing to struggle at the wrong end of the top-flight table, the towering star’s future is far from secure.

Everton are currently sitting just one place and three points above the relegation zone heading into the final stages of the season, and their exit from the Premier League could leave the club’s hierarchy with no choice but to sanction Calvert-Lewin’s exit.

And even if Frank Lampard does manage to keep them above the bottom three, the offer of European football may be too good for the player to turn down.

What has Jones said about Calvert-Lewin?

Although Jones has revealed that the Merseyside outfit ‘won't want to sell’ Calvert-Lewin, he has also stated that ‘it's a really worrying time’ for the club’s fan base.

He told GiveMeSport: “They won't want to sell him, and the fans would probably be fuming if they did, but needs must. It's a really worrying time if you're an Everton fan.”

How big a loss would Calvert-Lewin be?

Calvert-Lewin has become Everton’s most potent attacking force in recent years, registering 56 goals and 17 assists in 184 appearances since signing from Sheffield United.

His tally of 16 league strikes last term ensured he was the club’s leading scorer and was over double the total of his nearest challenger Richarlison.

Things have been tougher for Calvert-Lewin in the current campaign, though. He’s been unable to find the back of the net since 28 August due to injuries and lack of form, but his departure would still surely be seen as a significant blow.
