Man Utd: Erik ten Hag has already been interviewed for manager job

Erik ten Hag is the favourite to be named the new permanent Manchester United manager.

The 52-year-old has worked wonders at Ajax since taking charge of the team back in 2017, famously guiding them to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2018/19.

Ten Hag has also helped nurture the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt during his successful stint in Amsterdam.

Many United fans believe he is the man to turn the club’s fortunes around and there’s been a very positive update with regards to his potential hiring in the near future.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Red Devils interviewed Ten Hag on Monday as they step up their search for a permanent replacement to take over from Ralf Rangnick for the 2022/23 season.

The Ajax boss is one of a number of candidates being spoken to by United from a list that includes the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique.

Thomas Tuchel is not going to be interviewed, the report stating that the club are aware that the Chelsea boss is not a viable option.

United hope to make a decision on their new manager next month and then have him in place ready to guide the team in their pre-season campaign.

And right now, it looks like that man could very well end up being Ten Hag. Pochettino’s camp are apparently now starting to think that the job is the Dutchman’s to lose.

Ajax will not stand in Ten Hag’s way either.

The reigning Eredivisie champions have a pretty good relationship with United, which is helped by the fact that Edwin van der Sar is their chief executive.

But the Red Devils would still be expected to pay a compensation fee of around £4 million.

While there’s still a very long way to go in the process, you can’t help but think that the signs look promising for Ten Hag.

And one thing we can be 100% certain of is that if he is indeed hired, most United supporters will be in jubilant moods for quite some time.
