Liverpool have hauled themselves back into the Premier League title race this season just when it looked to be impossible.

An astonishing run of nine consecutive league wins since the 2-2 draw at Chelsea has seen them move to within one point of Manchester City, who looked at one stage to have the title wrapped up.

However, the Citizens' 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace has left the door wide open for a fascinating scrap for the title with Liverpool making the trip to the Etihad Stadium in early April.

Man City and Liverpool compete for the title

So, it's fair to say that we have another tasty battle between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola on our hands, which inevitably made us want to look even closer at who might come out on top.

At the expense of stating the obvious, the title race ultimately comes down to which teams the two challengers will be playing between now and the season's climax in May.

While you can never predict for certain where banana skins might rear their head, you can still get a pretty good impression about how a team might fare when you have a look at their fixture list.

And let's just say that fans would rather be one club out of Liverpool and City than the other when you skim through the matches they've got to play before concluding their Premier League campaign.

Predicting the Premier League title race

Bearing that in mind, we've decided to put our footballing and journalistic integrity on the line by going out on a limb and predicting every single Liverpool and City game still to play in the league.

As a result, we will obviously be revealing who we think will lift the Premier League trophy come May and you can check out the conclusion that we drew by checking out all our predictions down below:

Round one

Liverpool 4-1 Watford

Burnley 0-2 Manchester City

We wouldn't be shocked if both these opponents dropped down to the Championship, so it's hard to imagine too many disagreements with us predicting wins for both City and Liverpool.

Round two

Manchester City 2-2 Liverpool

Ah, the big one. Look, the history books aren't exactly favourable for Liverpool here because they haven't won a Premier League game away to City since Klopp's first visit - and even that was the first since 2008.

Marry that to the Citizens having a proud recent history of nailing title deciders at home, such as the visits of Manchester United (2011/12), Liverpool (2018/19) and Leicester City (2018/19), to see that Liverpool really do have their backs against the wall.

Nevertheless, we do envisage them taking a point because you can jolly-well bet that Klopp will treat the game like a major final, throwing the kitchen sink at the champions.

Round three

Liverpool 3-1 Manchester United

Manchester City 3-0 Brighton & Hove Albion

As wounded as Liverpool might be by failing to win at the Etihad in our imaginary universe, they've simply got too much quality not to beat a United side that has struggled against the top teams at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Brighton are really flailing around at the moment, so they're there for the taking against a City side that can so often run riot on home soil.

Round four

Liverpool 3-0 Everton

Manchester City 5-0 Watford

Yes, anything can happen in a Merseyside derby, but Everton have been dire on the whole this season and they won't hold up much better than Watford will against the Citizens.

Round five

Newcastle United 1-1 Liverpool

Leeds United 1-2 Manchester City

Look, upsets happen in football when you least expect them and we'd be pretty naive to predict that Liverpool won't drop a single point in the run-in other than against City themselves.

Toon were able to hold Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at St. James' Park last season and we can just picture them getting a marquee result against one of the title contenders in their brave new era.

Elsewhere, Guardiola's men will simply have too much firepower for a Leeds side that could still give them a few nerve-wracking moments at Elland Road.

Round six

Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United

Spurs will lean into the ropes and cause Liverpool some serious problems on the counterattack, but a fired-up Anfield crowd baying for victory will hype up Klopp's men for a dramatic win.

And although we tipped Newcastle to hold Liverpool at home, we're not sure they've got enough in the tank just yet to cause an upset at the Etihad only a few days after digging so deep.

Round seven

Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

West Ham United 0-3 Manchester City

The Saints have done enough to survive and find themselves in a state of flux where results are becoming more and more inconsistent. Liverpool should bag all three points.

With West Ham fatigued by a Europa League adventure and picturing themselves on the beach having fallen short of a top four challenge, they'll be picked off by City at the London Stadium.

Round eight

Manchester City 1-0 Aston Villa

Liverpool 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

With both teams playing at home on the final day of the season with crowds cheering them on for title glory, we expect them both to hold their own just as they did for the 2018/19 curtain-closer.

Rearranged fixtures

Aston Villa 1-3 Liverpool

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-0 Manchester City

These are tricky fixtures to call when we have no idea when they'll actually be placed in the calendar, but if any match leaps out to us as a banana skin for City, then it's the trip to Molineux.

And although Steven Gerrard will be chomping at the bit to get one over Liverpool, the simple fact of the matter is that Villa's defence is there to be exposed against Mohamed Salah and co.

Final table

  1. Manchester City - 93 points (+67 goal difference)
  2. Liverpool - 92 points (+68 goal difference)

Man City have the edge

Look, with all due respect to an absolutely stellar Liverpool side, it's taken a breath-taking run of nine wins in a row for them to even pull themselves back into a title race that once seemed dead.

So, when you look at the fact that they'll need to continue that trajectory through a fixture list much tougher than City's, you've got to say that they remain outsiders to become champions of England.

Don't get it twisted, a dramatic win at the Etihad Stadium for Klopp could mark a sea change in the Premier League narrative, but anything short of that should set City on course for glory once again.

However, at the end of the day, there are few things harder to predict than the Premier League and the only thing that we know for certain is that the title race is going to be fascinating to watch.
