Nathan Redmond could leave Southampton this summer, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

The attacker is heading towards the end of his contract, which could leave the Saints with a big decision to make over his future.

What's the latest news involving Redmond?

With Redmond's deal on the South Coast expiring this summer, this might be his final season as a Southampton player.

There have been no concrete links with an exit, although the upcoming window represents the final chance for the Saints to receive a significant fee for his services.

Redmond, who is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, has endured a frustrating 2022, with an ankle injury restricting him to just one Premier League outing since January.

He might not have scored in the top-flight this term, but Redmond has generally been a nailed on starter under Ralph Hasenhuttl, playing across the front three, including the occasional appearance up front, starting alongside Armando Broja in each of his four starts through the middle.

Despite being one of the most experienced players in the Southampton squad, having played 224 times for the club, Barclay failed to rule him out leaving this summer.

What did Barclay say about Redmond?

When asked about his future, Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: "I wouldn't be surprised if Nathan Redmond moved on in the summer because he's only got a year left on his contract.

"Djenepo is in a similar situation, although Redmond has been much more in favour and is probably offering more to the team.

"I'm not saying he will definitely go, but it's just his contractual situation that might leave them with a decision."

Would selling Redmond be a miss for Southampton?

Despite his experience, while continuously proving himself as one of the most hard-working players in the squad, Redmond hasn't lived up to expectations since he made the £10m switch from Norwich almost six years ago.

Having made more than 200 appearances in senior football, while being a regular for England Under-21s, big things were expected of Redmond when he moved to the South Coast.

But his general attacking output has been extremely disappointing in six years as a Southampton player.

In 224 games, he's scored just 29 goals and chipped in with only 27 assists, meaning not many fans would be sad to see him go.
